Tried to finish off some OCaml work, only to find that someone has removed my code from the CVS repository. WONDERFUL.

Dan is leaving the VA tomorrow meaning that I will be working there all alone. About the day after he leaves I will have to clean up everything left in his office to move into a tiny corner of a nearly fictitious hardware lab.

I was supposed to have a bunch of perl done for today for a databasing project. I have gotten: nothing.

I haven't done laundry in about a month.

I have to help Loren move this weekend, but don't know if he's actually coming before Monday or not.

While I'm in M'boro helping Loren pack I am also supposed to be in ATL giving Dan a farewell before he goes to Switzerland.

I feel that I have accomplished nothing this summer. My health is poor. I'm not making much money. My room is covered in junk. Did I mention I haven't had clean clothes to wear in a couple of weeks?

What else? I'm sure there's something. Oh yeah. I have no food in the house to eat. Our dishes are all going away. We forgot to take out the trash this week. And despite having all this shit and self-improvement to do, I can manage to waste entire days fucking around with a Dreamcast or playing Super Smash Brothers.

Not to be lame or anything, but I fucking hate myself sometimes. :D

Lots of hate surrounds me this past week over a recent purchase from Maggie. She
procured a Sony Vaio PCG-505G with a really cute carrying case at a yard sale or something for $15. They told her the display wouldn't come on but it worked otherwise. I told her I would take it for $20 and she could keep the case (she was making $5 AND getting a cute carrying case). So I took the thing home and had some adventures. You can read about them in that text file. I may make a real thing about installing linux on it, later, because it was kind of a GODDAMNED PAIN.

It is, however, super tiny and light and goddamned cute.

Who's tired?

MEEEEE!!!!!

So it goes. And yet, I have had a fairly damned good day. Got to play with PICs all day, as well as LCD things and stuff and even junk. O'Caml is starting to go better even if I think as a language that it is POOOOOOOOOOOP! It has to be learned and conquered, much like the filthy dirt children.

To make matters worser, I fried cthulhu a bit back. Installing libraries like glibc (the most importantest libraries ever for your linux install, and even more cryptic than that silly ol' kernel) can be BAAAAAD!!! So I put debian down over it. Go happy fun times!! Well, to fix a computer at the lab I am going to be doing the same. SAME!!! =sigh=. I should be sleeping so I can work more tomorrow. Also so I can drive to M'boro to knock my own face off. WHY!!?? I'm not sure and neither is Amy, but maybe I can convince her to go with me? :D She can work in the carrrrrr!!!!

Car Demonz???

So all of this car trouble started when one night my trunk was apparently open. All night. Hmm. It was all dead and stuff, even after being jumped and driven 40 minutes to work. Even after being driven 40 minutes after work after being jumped again. CONFUSION!!!

So I jumped 'er off and got a battery and stuff to install it with. The first set of ratchets didn't work because IMPORT CARS USE METRIC PARTS (just FYI). So while thinking about how to fix the car, I sat in it and let it run for about 20 minutes.

It has not had any problem starting, since. I have not installed the new battery. I am returning it tomorrow.

This in itself is not weird, save for the mysterious trunk opening.

But that's not all there is!!! Over the weekend, whilst out for food, etc. We stopped at Barnes and Noble for Sam to look for a book. Gibby was in the rear passenger seat. He got out of the car and into the car fine. Then we drove home. He sat in the same seat. When we arrived home he could no longer get out of the car. Walking around and opening the door for him, I found the child lock was on... ?!?!?

Getting worse, this morning Sam went out to find his car A) unlocked and B) with a window rolled down.

All of these things can be chalked up to chance and pilot error and poor design, Apollo 13-style, but I prefer to believe that forces beyond my understanding are pitted against me.

Gives me more reason to want to build scary electrical weapons. :)

Am I a Bad Enough Dude to Fix My Car?

GOD DAMN IT. What a fucking pain. Batteries are expensive. What's worse, is that the terminals on my car are all corroded and old and rusted to the battery.

Fucking Shit.

So I now own a deep socket set with socket wrench and a bottle of liquid wrench all from Ace Hardware. Using the liquid wrench on battery terminals seems like a recipe for breaking my face, however, since it says "WARNING: FLAMMABLE!!" And we all know what happens when you create friction on terminals of batteries............. :D

=sigh=. Oh well. I also bought some Krystals, so I am going to eat them before endeavoring to kill myself/break my car forever. :D

Well, looks like my Dad is finally getting around to cancelling AOL. Don't know what that means for my screenname, which is tied to the actual account, but I do know what it means for my oldskool webpage that hasn't seen the light of day since summber before freshman year (that would be mid-1999)... it means SALVAGE!!!

So the bits of my old page that AOL doesn't have to process now live here. This, incidentally, is on my DSL line. I'm trying to save space on baby-bell, here. :)

In other news, I like Perl. It is good for stuff. For instance, on my house's page, one can find the current weather, courtesy Weather.com. I am a FEITH!!! Wheee. You can also get the status of our DSL line, but I need to make that do more and look purtier and stuff. My ULTIMATE GOAL (ominous music of doom, here) is to make a page that tells me most of the interesting things I need to know about the world that the internet can tell me all on one page. :)

In other news, I have procured the coolest fucking toys from the lab. And when I say "the coolest" I mean "these things will fucking eat your teeth one by one as you sleep and you won't even feel it because they will have already shat your brains out on the floor and pissed in the skull cavity". Like an oscilloscope that is not totally broken, a "force feedback" vest for any video game system that functions on the "I hear bass, I should shake" principle (hook it up to some Techno, charge $20/minute at a rave. Retire early). A strobe light for radio controlled model planes that has a xenon element in it. It is fucking harsh. Also a free universal remote for my free TV. Huzzah. Oh, and some really fucking weird car vehicle thing with about 12-14 wheels. Oompha.

Marty is lame and didn't give you DHCP like he should have. To fix, do this:
start->run "winipcfg /all"
write down the following: DNS servers (they can be scrolled with the "..." button), IP Address, NetMask, Default Gateway.

Then start linux, and edit the following file with your favorite editor (vi for me):
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

And make it look like this:
DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=none
ONBOOT=yes
IPADDR=
NETMASK=
GATEWAY=

Boom. Problem solved. Alternately, harass Marty into setting up DHCP.

I guess if I had done anything for the last month and a half or studied more than 5 mins I would have done a little better. I only needed 4 out of 12 to pass calculus, but I know I missed atleast 5. Chemistry.. well I wasn't worried untill I read the exam then I wanted to cry. I just hope I pass. I give up on getting good grades. I'm just not smart enough to be in honors but I can be smart enough to pass. And that'll have to do. DEAR GOD, LET ME PASS MY CLASSES!!

Two exams down, one to go. Two and a half weeks of "work" down. one day to go. Christmas vacation is rolling over the horizon like an angry man at the helm of a 40-foot tall Caterpillar bull-dozer, and you all know what that means! Yes! 6-hour long drives filled with either the best or the worst music and conversation, combined with the never-easy feeling of "didn't I already make a new family in Atlanta? this one is a little odd." W00t. I'd be pooping my pants with excitement if I hadn't already done so.

So the post-season wrapup goes like this: Work tomorrow, turn in timesheet, come home. Compile a CD for Nicholas' present. Nothing like pirating dozens of gaming dollars worth of (S)NES, Gameboy, and Genesis titles for your little stepbrother. God knows if I'll be able to teach him to use it. Burn many X-Mas themed CDs (e.g. - Vandal's Oi To The World, along with various shit [::cough:: even a mariah carrey(sp?) song ::cough::]). Roll into my CS exam early Friday morning (let me be hung over!), roll out of it some 1-1.5 hours later. Hit up work for a paycheck, Wachovia for some cash, then back to chilllllllllllllllllll.

Post season entertainment consists of the works of Mr. Barton's (bringing us his delightful Vodka concerto, with a Gin-flavored encore, audience willing). The comedic stylings of Callisto (to get the laughs a-RUM-blin'). A re-enactment of Montezuma's Revenge (no worm), and not a single or a double, but a Triple-Sec. Halleleuha(sp?).

In addition to all delights ending in the letters "p-r-o-o-f", there will (Billy willing) be anime-brand visual stimulation at Billy's house Friday night. Saturday holds ice-skating-hot-chocolate-christmas-potluck-dinner goodness, and Sunday marks the transition from Fall Post-Season into the full Christmas Pre-Season, with the home team off to Winter Training in Jacksonville, FL.

Why do I tell you all this?

The idle animations in Anachronox are hilarious. Go find the Bipedri down by the Mystech Mueseum and watch them for about a half hour. They are hilarious. I was walking past them once, and (there are 3 of them), one of them was blown up really big, and started flying. Then a bright ball of light comes out of one of the other bippy's and hits him. He deflates and falls to the floor, and lays there, flat as a sheet of paper. The one who shot him then walks over and reinflates him.

It's hilarious.

It's sad that things like this could happen anywhere, but especially here. Those buildings were icons of hard working people of America overcomming strugle, and damnit, we're going to over come this.
"... we will win." says Bush. Some say that we should just start killing the terrorists, all terrorists, to prevent this from happening again. I say we should make a point. Just like in the old days, displaying their freakin heads and body parts can make a strong statement.
How could you comeplane about being opressed!? Those terrorists were trained to fly IN THE UNITED STATES! Probably under some kind of NO OPRESSION law, and then go and fucking BLOW up the Twin towers!
They will pay, and they will know who's stabbing the knife in their chest, because we will want them to know that you can not hide, the shadows that you are lurking in will not be there for long.

I don't know who posted the cute little rant about oppression, below (the IP address says Australia. I will buy that for now), but what creepy timing you have. You talk about being oppressed for who you are. How about being oppressed for where you live and who governs you? That post happened a little over an hour and a half before all hell broke loose up there in NY, and all I have to say about oppression right now is "Atleast you're not one of the people under those fucking buildings."

Fuck whoever planned those hijackings. Fuck the people who did it and the people who put them up to it. Fuck the people who think that this is a reasonable thing to do. Fuck the people who demand sympathy and then kill thousands of the people they demand it of. My opinion on this is not the most prudent. There are lots of problems involved with carrying out what I am about to say, but I want everyone involved in that suicide run to be found, and killed, painfully, alongside all who supported them and all who support the idea that slaughtering the innocent is a good way to get yourself and your ideas heard and supported.

Most of all, to all the people CNN showed dancing in the streets after hearing the news: Fuck You. I wouldn't dance if I heard thousands of people in your country were killed. I think it's sick that you would dance when thousands are killed in mine. Fuck you and your barbaristic attitudes. Fuck you and your inability to catch up with this century. People say that America is "sheltered" and we "need to get used to" these kinds of tragedies. Fuck the people who say that. The reason America isn't used to this kind of shit is because THIS KIND OF SHIT DOESN'T HAPPEN IN AMERICA. We have seen to that in the past, and we will see to that in the future. America must never let its expecations fall to the levels of those who would kill thousands of people who never did a damned thing to them. We are by no means a country spoiled by the fact that no one ever blew up thousands of our citizens before. We are just so far above you terrorist fucks that we didn't have to even consider such things.

I am the best sysadmin, ever. My two great claims to fame: 1) late last semester, while on my laptop in Amy's room, I succeeded in removing everything that occurs alphabetically before /dev. It took me hours to repair everything and make things usable again. It's a good, long, painful story and you have just heard the short version.

2) My latest, though not most destructive, act also occured from my girlfriend's room whilst on my laptop. This time, while attempting to shut down my laptop, I managed to shut down my webserver instead. It was at that point that I looked at her, made a sad puppy face, and told her that I would have to go to my room to turn it back on.

So to anyone who was trying to access my box about 20 minutes ago: I'M SORRY!!!! :D

Well, guys, it looks like we threw the fucking party of the year. Its too bad the cops didn't agree. Everyone scattered out of here pretty quickly and I didn't get the chance to say my goodbyes to a lot of people, so here goes. So my hair is now REALLY REALLY blue. Like, when you look in the bluehair gallery of pictures on my camura shrine, you are looking at crap. Late Nightz!

Well, I am here at the CRB after an interesting night. I expect to be here until 6am, when I am sure I will no longer be able to function.

Bought me a GeForce 2 MX w/32MB vram for $60. I am happy. It is both better and worse than my V3. Better because it doesn't randomly lock up and spew shit onto my screen. Worse because it randomly locks up before starting some games. Eh. It is very pretty.

Was thinking about going to a b-day party in Augusta, but I decided that I should try to make money and make up for my week-long haiatus(sp?) from work. Yeesh. So much to do.

So I was getting my stuff together to come to CRB at around 12:45am. I am carrying a pepsi and a bowl of my granny's redhot apples (mmmm). I reach for the doorknob when i hear a =ssssssssssssssssssssslip!=

I whirl around in time to see my computer cover fly off of my bed, land squarely on one of the more flimsy corners, and bounce into Gibby's stack of Dr. Pepper, viciously wounding one of the cans in the midsection.

I dove for it all, flipped the can on its back to prevent shock and cursed at my case for being so worthless. I am sure it is damaged For-E-Ver. Garbage.

Then in the parking lot, trying to drink this mortally wounded can of Dr. Pepper and carry my Pepsi and apples, i drop the pepsi in the gross disgusting mud and sand. It needed rinsing.

Almost at CRB, I notice the sprinklers are on, and that they are messing all over the sidewalk I am about to walk up. Feeling snide, I position myself so I will pass behind a tree just as the sprinkler that (i think) is nearest to me will be pointed right at me.

It is right at this moment that a completely unseen sprinkler operating at atleast twice the power of the others nails me in the head and shoulders.

The whole "weblog" (i never thought of calling it that, but whatever) thing seems to be everywhere, which is worthless to me, because I have no desire to be webtrendy. [insert crack about hosting All Your Base, here.] Therefore it is my desire to come up with some kind of new idea for my page.

Ideally I would like to host a page full of new and interesting content... make it a big ol' webgallery of all of these neato things I make to show people.

Unfortunately for my ideals, I don't have very many of these things, and the things I come up with to make are HUGE projects. That could be bad.

Of course, if I went into this, it might make me do some of these HUGE projects. That would be good.

so sam and i were sittin around doin the bored thing last night, trying to entertain ourselves w/ computerishness, but it just wasn't cutting it... well, not for me. sorry, babe, but pricewatch.com is only good for amusement for just so long... so we get up and start a-wandering out. and he says, 'so whaddya wanna do? where ya wanna drive?...' and i think... mmmm, drive... road... bwah! we go!

so we take things the round-about way, kinda meander our way up in the northward direction in such a way as to avoid the toll plaza on 400, and end up at sam's barnes ignoble/starf@$%ks... nothing particularly exciting happened... well, other than the fact that every other frickin car we saw was an NSX...

so yeah, neway, that was our lil road trip... it both quenched my wanderlust a bit and whet my appetite for more... so i'm not feeling quite as trapped in the daily routine, but... i want road. i want it now. lunch is in about 2 hours... someone stop me from getting on 85 north and just going forever.

So I Got This Computer...

My mom had it stored in "my room" at her house. It has an ESS1868 soundcard, a 2GB hard drive, 16 megs of ram, 20x CDROM... etc...

The real kicker, though, is its 28.8 KBps voice/data/fax modem.

At 1:30am, I tried crawling into bed. I was tired. Or so I thought. I found that I could not sleep, so up I got and started installed RedHat 6.1 on this computer. We wanted to make it into a versatile reboot tool for the various unstable machines on the network. We wanted to, via ethernet, via terminal, via telephone be able to tell this box to reboot any computer of our choosing in our room. In order to handle the phone side of this, we need a way to handle hearing DTMF (phone button) signals coming in off the phone line. I set about looking for howtos on what might be required to make such a thing work.

That's when I found vgetty.

vgetty is a replacement for the mgetty tool that apparently does things for modems. vgetty enables and interfaces to all of a voice-capable modem's voice characteristics, such as recording incoming sound, playing sound to the phone line, detecting DTMF signals, etc. etc.

It is a tiny god. Basically, once it is set up, you tell it where your modem is and hand it a sound file (converted to your modem's voice file format) and it will ANSWER YOUR PHONE and RECORD MESSAGES FOR YOU.

So when I go home tonight and turn it back on, you can call me and hear "Hello, my name is Linus Torvalds, and I pronounce Linux, Linux. =BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP=." Just like Gibby did testing it last night.

So yesterday Gibby and I woke up and proceded to play some Tribes. We got our asses kicked. We got mad and got ready to go to work. Then we noticed it was raining REALLY HARD. So we sat back down and played more Tribes. Then I played Deus Ex. Then more Tribes. And finally Doom II. By the end of Doom II it was midnight-forty and time to go to bed.

We are so lame. :D

So today we get up and come into work. The sun is shining. We do some things, have a meeting, go the the CoC to pick up our checks, go to the bank to deposit/cash them, go outsi-... no.. let's not go outside, because it is suddenly POURING.

Grrr.

Anyway. We ran back in the rain. I am mucho wet and cold. Wheeee!! It's okay, though. I don't care too much. Only a few hours before I go home to go to Florimada to visit me mum. I wonder how this weekend will be?

Well, it be wednesday and noon and I be not at work yet. Such is the trend that my life is taking. Sleep late, work late, sleep late, work late. Wheeeeee. Happily I make money doing this. :)

So I have these really neat-ass headphones by Koss. They twist up into a big ol' hamburger bun thing when you want to tote 'em, and out into normal headphones when you wanna listen to 'em. They are also really HUGE so they don't press on your ears, they just kinda clamp over them. Me likes a LOT, and they have really helped me focus on work. Apparently I am distracted by

• People talking about interesting things
• People talking about uninteresting things
• Silence

Poor poor Amerly. Atleast you are not redoing all of your code from scritch-scratch. :) Then again, I found some really hardcore errors that I had left in my previous shit. Good thing I decided to redo it all.

And no, the posting page does not automagically wordwrap for you. I do not find this to be a problem, since IE will do it for windows, and I rarely ever post in linux and when I do I am usually awake enough to proof-read it a word at a time as I type it.

Why is Perl so hardcore?

I just wrote a 2,640 line function to parse a string for keypresses. I did it by writing 8 lines of perl code, 4 lines of c code, and 2 vi string replaces.

Sometimes unix is just too hardcore. WOOHOO!

Late nights playing Jedi Power Battles

Hoo. I be tired. Went to work a little after noon. Got home a little after midnight. The problem is that physically I didn't get much work done, even if I have made progress as far as understanding what I am doing. Feh. They keep telling me at CRB that I have gotten nothing done. That kinda gets to me, 'cuz I've actually done a lot. Just nothing visible LATELY. Feh * 2.

Got a posting script done for them crazy Hookaz. I destroyed both my page and theirs doing it and spent about 30-45 minutes going absolutely INSANE looking for cached copies before things were approaching rightness again. Sheesh! On the plus side, their page should be all working and should get more busy soon. :)

What else? Wachovia finally recognized my first paycheck going through. It took exactly four days. Yeesh. Atleast it is in there, though. That makes me happy. Mmmmmmmm. Money! Har har. Poor Gibby has spent most of his first paycheck on his girlfriend, but that is what happens when they visit. I expect to bite hard into my money in a few weeks when I get signal from California that somebody set me up the Yamy!!!! I can't wait to seeeeeeeee heeeeerrrrr!!!! It's exciting. I miss her pretty badly. So do her friends all 'round Hot-lanta, who, by the way, are all hardcore if I have not said so lately. :) WE MISS YOU YAMY AMY! COME HOOOME!

After days of learning to tie my shoes with Python, I made the script to generate the page linked by that cute little link at the top of the Boredom section (now moved to the top, because I like it there). Heaven knows why I linked it, with so much incriminating material in it... but then, which of the three of you cares? I didn't think so.

Umm... I should also probably redo my links page. It is sorely out of date. Since it is missing things like The Jerk Network and the ATL Hookers pages. What a shitty, shitty, worthless links page to be missing those.

I fix it later. Now insomnia have wore off. Enjoy webtoys, people. Me go sleep.

I am so tired of the power outages here. Somehow even though Gibby and I have largely cut back and stopped our own breaker from blowing, we are also connected to a larger, more widespread one higher up on the breakerchain.
